Perhaps some of you can relate to what I was going through. In my case, I realized that the amount of money I was spending on quick weight loss programs did not justify the short-lived benefits, if any, that I recieved. I began to look into the option of consulting with a personal fitness trainer - a decision that would change my life. It was not until I hired a personal trainer in Houston that I was able to lose the weight and keep it off. My trainer not only motivated me to exercise but also educated me on how to work out effectively using weight training and cardiovascular conditioning. In addition, I learned about the importance of proper nutrition. These three elements are vital to successfully losing and subsequently maintaining body weight. Six months later I weighed 135 lbs, had more energy, felt better about myself and was able to quit smoking. It was this experience that motivated me to become a certified personal fitness trainer. Perhaps the experiences I have had with trying different weight loss methods has given me the ablility to relate to the struggles that many go through. It is the trainer's role to not only motivate and educate their clients but to also understand each individual's situation, challenge them, and hold them accountable to their goals. Personal fitness training should go beyond certification - it's about sharing experiences and actually caring about and understanding my clients needs, where they have been, where they want to go and seeing them through to achieving their goals.
